Novel about the 48 hours in the life of a prison warden and his wife leading up to the execution of a prisoner. Iowa-born Wilson married an Englishman who had previously been the Governor (or warden) of Dartmoor Prison. Her first novel, *The Able McLaughlins* won both the Harper Prize in 1923 and the Pulitzer Prize in 1924.
